“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”

At By Barclay we have set out to create native breed artisan produce locally in Ayrshire. We believe eating local food helps reconnect us to our food culture and landscape whilst reducing how far food travels. This local movement connects to our story. We started in 2017 as enthusiastic beginners with Saddleback pigs and currently have Tamworth “ginger” pigs, in addition to a flock of Shetland and Herdwick sheep. We are passionate about food and supporting rare and native breeds. Our slower maturing Tamworth pigs are outside bred, reared and fed naturally enjoying a stress-free lifestyle that gives the pork a distinctive flavour, texture and delicious taste.

There are loads of good reasons to buy and eat local food, you’re supporting small scale farmers and producers, who are committed to environmentally friendly practices and you get to enjoy seasonal, hormone-free prime produce, which is naturally juicy, rich and succulent. This keeps the countryside more diverse and protects the character and beauty of the landscape. The “human scale” of hyper-local food means you can find out more about food, give us honest feedback, and really make a difference.

Thank you for supporting this local movement!
